AmeriGEO Week 2022: Health Session

  • Universidad Americana Asuncion Paraguay (map)

The AmeriGEO Week 2022 will be held from August 15-19, 2022 at the Universidad Americana in Asunción, Paraguay (and virtual), with support by the Government of Paraguay and the Paraguayan Space Agency.

The Health Session will support a panel session (11:00AM-12:30PM ET/GMT-4) on Wednesday, August 17, 2022, and a follow-up discussion on the Wonder.Me Platform from 12:30-1:00PM ET/GMT-4. Interactive poster presentations will be held during the Lunch & Learn session (11:30AM-1:30PM ET/GMT-4) from Tuesday, August 16 to Thursday, August 18, 2022. The session theme is Bridging Earth and Health Science Communities in Environmental Health: Focus on Vector-borne Diseases, Extreme Heat, and Air Quality.

Description: In this session, panelists will describe ongoing efforts in the Americas region to develop malaria and wildfire early warning systems, and strengthen the implementation of urban heat adaptation and mitigation strategies. The session will also emphasize multinational collaborations to promote population health through research funding opportunities, creation of a community of practice, and capacity building. By bridging the Earth and health science communities, collective dialogue can help identify research and practice gaps to mitigate environmental health risks to affected populations, integrate Earth observations to complement surveillance programs, foster stakeholder engagement, and offer timely evidence-based solutions for community application.
